Mr. Adam L. Matthews
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, and Community Members,
My name is Adam Matthews, and it is my pleasure to serve as the Principal at Candor Elementary School. I am beginning my 28th year in NC Public Schools. I received my Associate in Arts degree from Sandhills Community College in 1994, a Bachelor's degree in English Education from Appalachian State University in 1997, and a Masters in School Administration from UNC- Pembroke in 2006. I also completed the Principal's Executive Program for Aspiring Principals in 2008. My wife Gina and I are both educators, and we have four adult children. I began my career in Caldwell County Schools in 1997 as an English teacher at South Caldwell High School, before moving to Moore county schools in 2004. I have served as a middle and high school English teacher, assistant principal, curriculum facilitator, bus driver, custodian, and coach during my career. I am an avid outdoorsman and have also taught backpacking and sea kayaking courses in the PE department at Sandhills Community College.
My mission as Principal at Candor Elementary is to provide a safe and positive learning environment where students can have a physically and emotionally safe place to learn within a supportive learning community. Elementary school establishes the foundational skills and knowledge for young people to be successful through their entire education from elementary to middle school then to high school graduation and post-secondary learning. As the Principal, I want each of our students to know they are loved and cared for on this campus and that we as a staff and school are here to support and encourage them as they begin their educational journey with Montgomery County schools. I also want to encourage our students to grow as leaders. Leadership has no age requirement, and I feel that elementary school is a great setting to grow and develop leadership skills and confidence that will carry them throughout their lives.
Parents, we also want to encourage you to continue to be involved in your students' learning. We welcome parents and guardians to be part of our learning community by visiting, volunteering and attending PTO and School Improvement Team meetings. We need your support as we guide your students through their elementary school years. I ask that you stay in communication with your child's teachers!! That communication is vital in providing a team approach to supporting our students. Thank you for your continued support of the Candor Cubs community!!!
Respectfully,
#CandorCubs # Many Pieces, One Team.
